Commitment to Education

'The conception of the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development was introduced by the Japanese Government at the World Summit for Sustainable Development (WSSD) Preparatory Committee IV (Bali, Indonesia June 2002) and endorsed at the highest political levels at the WSSD in Johannesburg, South Africa in September 2002. Three months later it was endorsed by consensus at the 57th Session of the UN General Assembly and a Decade of Education for Sustainable Development declared to commence 1 January 2005.'
